The oscillating tool earns its place on the cuts nothing else reaches: flush against a wall, plunged into a fitted floor, or trimming in a corner where a round blade cannot go. Housing and motor are isolated from each other to damp vibration, and the positioning aid and depth stop turn a freehand tool into one that starts on the scribe line and stops at a set depth — which is what makes it usable on a finished surface. Blades are chosen by material — wood, metal, and universal bi-metal for mixed work including embedded nails — in 32 to 100 mm widths. Carbide blades last considerably longer in abrasive material; diamond blades cut grout and tile. Segment blades, scrapers and silicone removal blades cover the stripping jobs that come with refurbishment.
