Brad-point bits for timber have a centre spur that stops the bit skating as it starts and leaves a cleaner rim than a twist drill can. Auger bits from 6 to 16 mm clear their own waste on a screw thread, which is what makes deep holes through joists and studs possible without repeatedly backing out. Many come with a CENTROTEC shank so they mount without a chuck. Forstner bits, hole saws and countersinks fill in the rest of what a fitting-out job asks for.
